1 cup coffee
1 cup cold water
1 egg
6 cups boiling water

Scald granite-ware coffee-pot.
Break egg and keep the shell. Beat egg slightly. Mix with one-half of the cold water, add crushed shell, and mix with coffee. Add into a coffee-pot, pour on boiling water, and stir thoroughly. Boil for about three minutes. If the coffee has not boiled, it will look cloudy. Stir and pour some coffee in a cup to be sure that your spout is free from grounds. Return to coffee-pot and add remaining cold water. Cold water being heavier than hot water sinks to the bottom, carrying the grounds with it. Keep the coffee-pot on the stove, but do not boil anymore. Let it stand for about 10 minutes, and then serve.
